I've been freaking out all week because the bakery called me back to tell me that despite the fact they had guaranteed me a job for this summer, my internship last year worked out so well that they're starting a program with the local culinary school. Which means they no longer need an engineering student. Shit.

But I just had an interview this morning which could not have possibly gone any better - they ended it by saying that I interview very well, they couldn't believe I didn't have an internship yet, and they were going to do everything they can to find me a position in the next week. Which yes, very much what I wanted. :D And of course an engineering internship looks much better (honestly, I'd almost given up on one, since I keep getting to the final round of interviews and getting shut out by juniors). So fingers crossed for that!

Or, you know, if absolutely nothing else works out, I can always just live at the Delta Sig house all summer with awesome people I love and get a waitressing job. I hate not knowing what's going to happen, but it'll be okay.

TVaddict!chef has finished SPN S2 and, being an incorrigible Deangirl, is incensed that only Sam got dirty in S2.
Her: Can we please talk about hot, sexed-up Dean? When does he get a sex scene?
Me: Not until S4. Then they both get some.
Her: But they're really good, right?
Me (thinking about Dean's sweet & slow versus Sam's rough & dirty): It's... really not the way you'd expect it.
Her:'s together, isn't it.
adsfjkljlf OBVIOUS BOYS ARE SO OBVIOUS. SO. FUCKING. OBVIOUS. I COULDN'T EVEN PROCESS. I just sort of gaped at her and flapped around wordlessly, which she (NATURALLY) took as my utter horror at the idea of gay sibling incest. She just shrugged & said, "They act like gay lovers all the time anyway. I bet the real surprise of the series is that they aren't actually related, so then they can get it on with each other. I'm totally right, aren't I?"

Goddamn, I love my coworkers. I am seriously going to miss this job.

As my BB rec list continues to eat my life, I need all of you to go watch this right the hell now:
VID: The Road Ahead by [ profile] gigglemonster. Sam/Dean. 2:55. When the war is over, what comes next?

BEAUTIFUL. This is their relationship laid out, and the entire series arc is interwoven throughout. Absolutely gorgeous setup and the clips are pieced together perfectly. JUST WATCH, okay, and roll around in the Winchester love.

TV addict!pastry chef is nearly finished with SPN S2, and I think she's going to begin mainlining S3 soon because I leave for college in two weeks (OMFG, by the way). I've already told her that she has to call me the second she watches the S3 finale, because she's such an avid Deangirl that her reaction is going to be PRICELESS. And she may kill me, but totally worth it.

ALSO WATCHING SPN: [ profile] lady_sarai! Without any harassment from me, even! We're taking over, guys, Misha's Minions all the way! Also, there was this thing about her birthday too? Let there be cake! )

Just got home from a going-away work party, since one of our Swiss apprentice bakers is flying home this week. In theory, it was an American Melting Pot potluck, which turned out to mean cases and cases of European liquors. Let me tell you, drunken Swiss boys singing in German makes for some damn good entertainment. And, of course, the food was ridiculous since it was all made by bakers and pastry chefs. I'm full for the rest of the week, thanks. And oh my god, there were mojito sorbet popsicles... mmmph. I love my coworkers.

And then what do I find when I get home? A message from the beautiful, lovely [ profile] lady_sarai, who was once my accomplice and who was checking back in on me, since I completely fell off LJ until last year. Sara, I have missed you like Sawyer misses his coconuts and you have completely made my day. I can't wait to bake crack pie with you again!

[+] This weekend was absolute insanity, but of the very fun sort. Saturday was Swiss National Day (yay to any Swiss on my flist!) and my bakery caters the embassy events, so I've been working ten-hour shifts starting at 5am since Thursday. (The Swiss embassy, by the way, is stunning. Wow.) I'm exhausted, but admittedly rather excited for the overtime pay. :)

[?] I have no idea what was going on, but on my way home from work, Braddock Road (610) had every side street & driveway blocked off with at least two police cars at every intersection, four at the major lights. This continued onto Fairfax County Parkway (7100) and the entrance to I-66. I counted over three dozen cars in total, not including motorcycles & unmarked vehicles. Weird.

[+] OH GOD today's xkcd was so nostalgic for me. Every single one of you should read Le Petit Prince, and if you have any background in French, read it in the original. So much love.

[+] Speaking of amazing reading, I'm finally going back to BBs, and some of them are absolutely stunning. I can't wait to make a rec post for all of these.

[-] Am feeling like shit tonight and being a hypochondriac. Please convince me I don't have appendicitis and this is just an adverse reaction to my birth control. I'm just hoping to sleep it off.

Ahaha, anyone remember that I loaned TVaddict!chef L SPN S1? She texted me last night.
if you don't bring s2 tomorrow don't bother showing up bc you're fired. I need it now.
And then when she arrived this morning, the first thing she said to me was "This was such an awesome show until that bullshit finale. What the fuck was THAT? Does the dad die? The dad dies. Wait, don't TELL me! IS THE CAR OKAY?" SHE'S SUCH A FANGIRL. And a Dean!girl, but I'm pretty sure she's just uncomfortable with how ridiculously young Jared looks in S1. UGH HIS STUPID HAIR I MISS IT.

Anyway, Bakery of Crazy earned its name today because tomorrow is Swiss National Day, and we cater the embassy party. Which is really very cool, but of course nothing's ready and we're all running around frantically. Our freezers are literally stuffed floor-to-ceiling with about one square foot in the center. Tomorrow will be just as lovely, I'm sure. :)

up on dry land by [ profile] ampersands. Jared/Jensen. PG. Things have been ending for a while now.

NON-AU POST-SPN J2 ROAD TRIP. UNF YES. When it's well-written, this is pretty much my bulletproof kink, and this author handles it so, so beautifully. The atmosphere is incredible and her boys are so comfortable with each other. Actually, though, the thing that absolutely grabbed me was Jared's description of what it meant to be Texan. I know this 'good ol' Texas boys' angle has been played ad nauseum, but it was wrenching and it made me homesick. I love the writing style and will definitely be following the author's work.

Remember how I lent SPN S1 to one of our pastry chefs? (In retrospect, calling her pastry chef L was monumentally stupid, since there's only two and both of their names start with L. GOOD JOB, KATE. I need to think up clever names for coworkers.) She loves it because "each episode's like a different horror movie" and now she thinks our other pastry chef will love it too. And "the actors are pretty good, even if they have effed-up names. Padawhat?" I am doing good work, people.

I have an unexpected surprise!weekend today & tomorrow, since they need me to work crazy hours Saturday through Monday to make up for one of the pastry chefs being gone. Mmmph yay sleeping in. ♥
marenzi: (Raspberry Lime Summertime)
Today we made white peach & champagne sorbet. (Okay, it is officially a bakery/pastry shop, but we also have coffees and sandwiches and soup and ice cream.) Mondays are our slowest day - it was just pastry chef L & myself in the kitchen. So we blanched and pitted and pureed the peaches, then added a bottle of uber-expensive imported European champagne. After testing, of course, JUST IN CASE. Of something. So we mixed this scrumptious concoction together, but it wasn't very champagne-y. We added half of the second bottle and the sorbet was perfect, but the rest obviously wouldn't keep once opened. DILEMMA.

This dilemma was solved with several very classy plastic shot glasses. Sorbet-making has never seemed quite so entertaining or hilarious before. FUN TIMES YAY.

L is also a bit of a television addict & fangirl, so I've lent her my SPN S1 DVDs. I am REALLY REALLY hoping to convert her so we can talk about the boys all day. :D

I was talking to the new counter girl at my Bakery of Crazy, and she is kind of amazing! I already want us to be BFFs, because she is so sweet and smart and - actually, she's pretty much a Mary Sue. But real! Anyway, she's getting married to her college sweetheart in December, so we started talking about guys. She asked me if I was dating anyone, I said no, and she asked why not.

The very first thing my brain came up with? "Because Jared Padalecki and Jensen Ackles are already fucking each other, and Jensen's too much of a jealous little bitch to share."

THANK YOU, BRAIN-TO-MOUTH FILTERING SYSTEM. You fail me quite frequently, but you did good today. And then there were several instances of surprise!JDM via license plates on the way home. Fandom has completely taken over (and I love it).

WHERE IS MY CHRIS/JENSEN/ALDIS FIC, PEOPLE. I NEEEEEDS IT. It starts out with Jensen & Aldis just chilling at the beginning of the show, already a couple beers in and talking about how great Chris is up there, how awesome he is. And then they all get on stage together and it's electric, like this INSTANT MUSICAL CHEMISTRY or something okay. And then after the show, they're still partying for Chris' birthday, so they get just a little smashed and end up drunkenly making out and rubbing off on each other because they're just such good friends!

radio commercial: Charles Tooown races and slots! Right down the road, where the action is hot!
Swiss intern baker R: What are sluts?
Kate: ...uh. Saywhatnow?
R: Sluts! Like in the commercial. You know, races and sluts.
Kate: *explains difference between slots and sluts*
R: Oh. So either way, you pay to put something in, no?
There does seem to be a particular emphasis on hot action.

CMM VISITED MY BAKERY TODAY, GUYS. I'm minding my own business in the kitchen, just icing layer cakes, when the stupid little bell at the door rings. I glance up, because it's a Pavlovian thing, and this twentysomething blond preppy guy swaggers in and flips up his sunglasses. And then proceeds to flirt shamelessly with the underage girl behind the counter, so obviously IT WAS HIM. Or at least his stunt double. Or evil twin, although I would suspect that CMM is already the greater of two evils, so.

And then there was surprise!Zefron in Firefly, which blew my mind because I somehow missed it the first time around. He was little Simon in Safe. Apparently I am just surrounded by lovable douchebags today.

This was the first Father's Day I've been with my dad since elementary school, so we spent the day together. We went to the Icelandic ambassador's embassy party in DC, which was - well, not fun, but interesting. He had a good time, at least! We both love sushi, but didn't have a chance to go out for lunch or dinner. So I made him a sushi cake! )
marenzi: ([RPS] Jensen Ackles = WINNER)
Tonight, I was pulling a Father's Day cake out of the oven when I accidentally knocked a round metal thermometer off the top rack. Because I have crazy-awesome reflexes 21% of the time, I instinctively grabbed for it. I now have burn blisters across the pad of every finger, which, while looking pretty badass, still throb painfully eight hours later. I have to keep them submerged in ice water to keep the pain manageable and am typing this one-handedly.

Basically, I spent all week pulling ten-hour shifts at a bakery, then come home and get second-degree burns from baking a cake. FML. Irony's a bitch.
marenzi: ([SPN] Dumb & Crazy)
Eleven-hour shift at the bakery today. They bought us a new freezer because the old one was failing, so as that's being installed outside, they've moved the old one inside. You would be laughing your ass off if you actually understood how insanely excited I am about this! Except I was carrying heavy trays all. day. long. and my shoulders & neck are killing me.

And then I was going to leave around six-ish, but L started working on a five-tiered wedding cake covered in miniature fondant flowers. That distracted us for another three hours. It's nearly three feet high and my little flowers look so pretty, but it's filled with pistachios. I don't even know, okay? Pistachio's all fine and well, but this is a wedding cake. Whatever, people are weird, yo. You would not believe how batshit crazy people go over cakes.

I like to plan these things out, okay? Many thanks to [ profile] impalalove for oh-so-helpfully posting the fall schedules because I've lazy like that.

8:00 - CBS - How I Met Your Mother
9:30 - CBS - Big Bang Theory
10:00 - ABC - Castle
9:00 - FOX - Glee
9:00 - CW - Supernatural

After six years, I think my torrid love affair with NCIS is finally over. I still adore Gibbs and Ziva, but I didn't watch much this season. What I did watch just seemed sloppy. And with the new LA spinoff (what.) it seems to be headed towards CSI, which - no. :/ This summer, I plan to watch/catch up on Firefly, Big Bang Theory, & How I Met Your Mother. Thanks to all of you, I'm also interested in Doctor Who, Leverage, & Psych. Oh, decisions.

I'll also be working all summer at the bakery - they asked if I wanted a summer job after the internship ended, and today we began to finalize details. I am just a little pleased that I was offered a job after only four days, especially since they've made it clear that I am welcome and needed during any breaks, too. Now I get to apply for student loans! Yay college.
marenzi: (Default)
This weekend was the most social I've been in months, now that classes are over. Worked at my bakery internship most of the day Saturday, and as I was signing out, the owner asked if I'd be interested in staying on for the summer! YES PLEASE. I am loving this so much, and I feel so lucky to be working on something fun instead of sitting at a desk like my friends. I'd been a little self-conscious about being such an obvious newbie (and yeah, a little paranoid that they were annoyed that they had to babysit some high schooler) but being offered a job on my fourth day? I'm feeling very reassured. :D

Softball sleepover Saturday night included jumping on the trampoline in pouring rain at midnight. Do you need more proof of how amazing these girls are? Sports award ceremony Sunday afternoon, where I won the award for team leadership & commitment again, and then we all drove out to the middle of nowhere for a party at the coach's house. We ate unbelievably quantities of junk food and terrified the neighbors and absolutely destroyed her deck (although to be fair, she started the food fight).

I've been playing softball all four years of high school, but this has easily been the best by far. We started out without a pitcher or half of our infield and went on to host states and finish third. I've never been so happy at school as I have with these coaches or these girls - I've watched the other teams we played, whose coaches screamed at them and whose pitcher or catcher mocked other players' mistakes, and I feel so lucky. We have the best underclassmen, seriously. A couple of the freshmen girls actually wrote me letters/birthday cards saying how much they'll miss me next year, and I can hardly remember how miserable I was at this school freshman & sophomore years because this? Makes it worth it.

/Hallmark moment

[ profile] jelliclekat wrote me birthday!fic which is the BEST THING OF MY LIFE: Long Past Time, Sam/hallucinations, spoilers for the finale. BEST. EVER. Angsty and fucked-up and hurts so so good. MMM WINCHESTERS. ♥

SO EXCITED FOR BIG BANG POSTING, OMG. Except I will be crazy-busy with prom and graduation and all of that for the first week, so I'll just have to play catch-up the second week. :D

Now that I have my G1 and can actually set songs as my ringtone, Carry On Wayward Son makes me glee every time someone calls. SPN theme song! Hope that everyone else had an amazing weekend too.

(@mishacollins is MAKING MY LIFE right now. I am fangirling his dorkiness so hard.)

So. Now that that's over with, I can pretend to continue with my life (HA).

I finished AP exams and softball on Tuesday - third in the state! It's the first time we've ranked, and a home game at that. Lost 6-5 in the seventh inning, but we played amazingly and they were a good team. It's really weird to think that I'm done with softball, which has sort of defined spring for the last four years.

My birthday was yesterday, and it was nice and quiet. I began my internship, so I worked at the bakery from 11-7 and then took home their signature black&white cake, which was very pretty and delicious. I assumed I'd be observing and dishwashing to start off, but it's been very hands-on; today I was actually icing and decorating the sale cakes. It's extremely weird to think that someone is going to pay $22 for a tiny cake made by a high schooler.

My extended family often pools birthday presents together, so from my parents/relatives I got a white G1. It is extremely pretty and incredibly addictive and I'm already in love. I'm finally beginning to see why so many people love iPhones! There are a lot of great free apps, too. Any recommendations from fellow G1-users? The only thing I'm considering buying is the Microsoft Office app, which would be very useful but very expensive. I'm desperately hoping someone will code a free version soonish.

marenzi: ([RPS] Jared Padalecki)
Happy birthday, Sam Winchester! Please know that if you belonged to me, you would be spending the day on a tropical island instead of, y'know. Um.

Yesterday: Senior Day! Our class took over an entire IHOP, then had senior speeches (my god, some girls were crying for five hours straight. Tons of fun, let me tell you), then the faculty softball game! Which is stupidly unfair, because two of the faculty are former minor league baseball players who consistently hit the ball over two soccer fields onto either Jermantown Road or Route 123. WHATEVER, FUN TIMES. And then the senior musical that night, Kiss Me Kate - I never knew how many boys could sing! It was a good way to round it all up.

Today was the first day of my senior internship as well. Rather than start off on a normal day, they needed someone to help out with the Flower Mart carnival they cater at the National Cathedral. I worked from 7 this morning until 8 tonight and was standing from 9-6, so my knees HURT, but other than that I had a good time. I'm surprised how many kids my age were there - I know they won't be around during my actual internship in the kitchen, but it was fun for the day.

One of the girls is honestly straight out of a YA novel. She's that quirky, fun, silly sidekick who says anything (and seriously looks exactly like she could be [ profile] marlisle's little sister, by the way). Two minutes after she met me, she asked me out for coffee (we were early and the owners hadn't showed up yet), and as we were walking back, she just said, "You're really pretty. Not to be awkward or weird, but I just thought you should know." It was just completely platonic and something a best friend would say, but. No one has ever straight-up told me that, and I can't believe her or anything, but it seriously made my day. She works at their other location, but I really wish we could work together and I really want to get to know her. It was the sweetest thing ever.
