ajsfklajfkjf so I was momentarily excited when I heard that Wincon 2010 would be in Chicago, because I am now only a few hours away! And then I realized that yes, I do have classes and studying and other nonsense that will need to be done because, you know, COLLEGE. So I just sort of forgot about it.

This morning, I randomly realized that October 15-17 will be our fall break. OH MY GOD WHAT. THIS MAY BE A POSSIBILITY. Although aside from the fact that the universe pretty much aligned itself for me in terms of place and time, I'm also broke. How much do these things usually end up costing, flist? Probably $125 for registration, since I can't commit too early (or I could buy an $85 ticket and sell if I need to?) and then a shared hotel room, which would likely be at least $25 per night. Plus food and gas, obviously, and money for shenanigans.

TELL ME ABOUT YOUR CON EXPERIENCES, FLIST. AND ESPECIALLY IF YOU MIGHT BE THERE.

Heee! I have sadly never been to a con, which is kind of a side-effect of living in Maine. BUT I AM GOING TO BOSTON COMIC CON IN APRIL, YES I AM. I hope you can go! It sounds awesome!

I never thought I'd go to one, but this seems to be working out so perfectly... IDK! HAVE FUN IN BOSTON!!

By the way, about where in Maine do you live? My closest friend from high school is up at Bates and she loves it there, even if it's already too cold for her. :)

Hee, I hope it works out!!

I'm in Gorham, which is about twenty minutes outside Portland! I'm about less than an hour south of Bates, actually! :D It's been FREEZING this week, SERIOUSLY. Today is 62, and it's about 20 degrees hotter than it was yesterday. :P

Haha, I thought she was exaggerating, since she was always too cold in DC - she grew up in southern Asia - but that's definitely worse than here! I am jealous of all the snow up there, though.

I think what works for a lot of people is that you just start setting aside money NOW. Plus, you end up paying for things in increments- you register months in advance, then do the hotel at the actual time of the con. If you put aside the money in bits over the next TWELVE MONTHS, it's totally doable!

YOU KNOW YOU WANT TO BE THERE. It'll be like that night at Hooters TIMES ELEVENTY BILLION.

I'm fairly certain I could make it work financially, since I have my own money saved up. Which is all technically for tuition, but let's face it, I'm going to be paying for college for the next thirty years anyway.

IT SOUNDS SO GOOD. Like expanding the DC Fangirl Contingent of Awesome everywhere! Do you know if you're going?

Also, the con tickets are refundable up to a certain date (which I don't know off the top of my head) and the con comm are pretty good about putting up notices saying "so and so is looking to resell their ticket" if you end up needing your money back after the fact.

So... I say buy the ticket now at its cheapest and then figure it out from there! :D I usually end up spending like 200 bucks on food and booze and stuff for the weekend, plus however much for the hotel.

I am so very tempted to buy the ticket and just make it work, damn it, because I've heard so many wonderful things about cons. How could tons of fangirls together not be completely awesome?! Thanks for the rough estimate of other expenses - I had a feeling that it might add up to more than the con anyway. :)

You've got plenty of time to save! [livejournal.com profile] affectingly is right and we do offer refunds. We haven't picked a refund expiration date yet, but it's usually late August.

Hope to see you there!
