Ugh, I am horribly sick. I lost my voice Friday night, but just assumed it was because I'd been cheering at the softball games, then during senior speeches, then the play. But then, on the first day of my internship yesterday, I couldn't talk until 10 or so.

Today, I am miserable. Not only is my throat on fire, but I have typical flu symptoms with a fever and I can't keep food down. Lovely. My parents are insisting I stay home tomorrow, but it's AP week. I have two tests and a lab, not to mention studying.

Ditching any kind of responsibility is sounding pretty good right now. If anyone wants to show me pretty pictures to distract me, I would love you forever.

MY LAST DAY OF HIGH SCHOOL IS OFFICIALLY OVER. Unbelievable, and it really hasn't sunk in yet, but - wow. Won our softball game 10-0 mercy rule again, which is always good. Tomorrow's senior day, where the entire class sleeps in, goes out to breakfast, and then there's 'senior speeches' to reminisce. WHATEVER, I AM DONE. Now I just have to get through four AP exams and an internship and then GRADUATION. :D

My internship is at a local high-end bakery - I know I haven't done any food posts in a while, but I love to cook - and I'll be doing a hundred hours in two and a half weeks. Yay? I'm excited. I'm starting early this Saturday because they're catering an event at the National Cathedral and they need an extra pair of hands.

So much congratulations to everyone who managed to finish their Big Bang! I'm still frustrated that my word count fell short, but there has been no time, what with it being the last few weeks of school and all. I'll still write it, it just won't be a part of the official challenge.

Today has been declared lurker amnesty day! Have you read me but never commented? Do you surf by occasionally? Here for the fic? Say hello! You are under no obligation to ever comment or delurk again, but here's a chance to do so in a post just for that.
Ahaha, this meme was made for people like me - I've been trying to comment on everyone's posts, because I know I'm a terrible commenter. Sigh.

And finally, I know April is poetry month - I'm not a fan of most poetry, but the last stanza is my journal title and my favorite ever.
the boys i mean are not refined
e.e. cummings

the boys i mean are not refined
they go with girls who buck and bite
they do not give a fuck for luck
they hump them thirteen times a night

one hangs a hat upon her tit
one carves a cross on her behind
they do not give a shit for wit
the boys i mean are not refined

they come with girls who bite and buck
who cannot read and cannot write
who laugh like they would fall apart
and masturbate with dynamite

the boys i mean are not refined
they cannot chat of that and this
they do not give a fart for art
they kill like you would take a piss

they speak whatever's on their mind
they do whatever's in their pants
the boys i mean are not refined
they shake the mountains when they dance

eta And the fabulous [livejournal.com profile] girlmostlikely has hooked me up with Dreamwidth! I'm marenzi over there as well.

Fuck you too, Amazon. Way to alienate a huge portion of your customers.

My current plan to get this twenty-page John Irving paper done is that for every five pages I write, I get to read a section of [livejournal.com profile] musesfool's Beggars Would Ride. I reorganized my delicious account again a few days ago and have a million tabs open of things I want to re-read. We'll see how this goes.

I'm sitting in Caribou and I swear there's something about this place - there's always a weirdly high percentage of attractive people here. Not that I'm complaining, but it's not very conducive to getting papers done.

(Also, ICON. Alex Pettyfer, ladies & gentlemen. ♥)

I started out with two Wikipedia tabs open, one on John Irving for a twenty-page paper due Monday, another on trypanosome for biology research.

Twenty minutes later, I have no new information on either Irving or the immune system, but I've discovered that Jared Leto attended my high school. Who knew.

A few thoughts on NCIS. Spoilery. Not very squeeful. :/ )

OH HEY IT'S SNOWING. Actual snow that's sticking to the ground!! Makes me realize how much I've missed Idaho's blizzards, but whatever, we got a snow day, which was nice. And hopefully we'll have another tomorrow, because I have been horribly irresponsible and haven't done any of my preemptively-assigned snow day homework. :)

I made a stuffed olive-and-garlic rib roast tonight, which was pretty good, but nothing really special. For dessert, though, I made traditional shortcake - the wonderfully lumpy, cakey kind, not that grocery-store fluff - and infused it with orange zest. I topped the cakes with clementine slices & strawberries, then drizzled them with a sweetened-condensed-milk/Grand Marnier/grenadine mixture. OM NOM NOM. This mixture is the best ever. I'll dress up an extra shortcake tomorrow for food porn photos.

EDIT: Strawberry-Orange Shortcake )

I am officially a second semester senior, finally. This year is simultaneously flying by and dragging horribly. OH WELL, FOUR-DAY WEEKEND!

Today was the end of my Middle East Studies class. I'm not ready to fully write about the Gaza Crisis here, but this class made me question and reform so many of my beliefs. For anyone interested in hearing different sides of the story, I really recommend Bitter Lemons, a Palestinian-Israeli op-ed listing; for anyone interested in the Palestinian view, I recommend What You Don't Know About Gaza. They'll make you question yourself.

Anyway, since it was the last day, we had a bit of a party and brought in middle eastern foods. I made Nus Qamar, an almond crescent cookie, though I heavily modified it. I think that our class of ten ate more than forty cookies, so I'd say they turned out well. Picture & Notes )

I cannot wait for Tuesday, you guys. It still feels almost surreal, and I'm going to be able to be there to see it. I'll be staying at a friend's house the night before so I can avoid the metro mess entirely. She lives about a mile from the Mall, so we can walk into DC early that morning. We'll freeze our asses off and probably get trampled and I'm so excited. Will anyone else be there? I knew there's a decent contingent of fangirls around here somewhere!

Speaking of which, I'd wanted to go see MBV3D tonight at Gallery Place with [livejournal.com profile] balefully and others, but timing sucked and I couldn't make it. I would love to go to a real-life-meets-fandom event sometime, though it seems that the SPN fandom has a lot of twentysomethings and very few teenagers; I'm not sure if people would mind that I'm a bit younger (eighteen). I can behave myself, really - well, as much as anyone can when Jensen Ackles appears in 3D right in front of you, twenty feet tall and wearing a tight shirt.

I lived through the first day back, mostly because we didn't actually do any work - we just went over exams. I got As in everything except AP Bio, which was a C+. My parents are not exactly pleased. Honestly, though, I'm just completely burned out on that class because I feel like if I haven't gotten it by now, I never will.

Instead of that depressing thought, let's focus on my A IN MATH YAY. I've been bouncing around like Jared Padalecki on sugar. And it sort of restored my faith in being an engineering student. ♥

I just re-read [livejournal.com profile] shoebox_project last night. No matter how long I've been out of HP fandom, I will never not love that story. It's just - mmph. Boys.
"I like to remember everything," Remus says, very quietly, so as not to wake him. "As it was. Because moments by themselves aren't enough; they're just -- they're like photographs. They move a little, they wave, but they aren't everything. You can look back on a moment and say 'In that moment I was happy' or, more often than not, 'In that moment I was uncomfortable' or 'In that moment I was sad' or 'In that moment we were all berks' but you can look back on everything and you think, 'That was good.' Because when all the moments come together, when all the songs meet up with one another, you get something whole and complete and wonderful, people you loved and people you hated and a fondness for them you may not be able to recapture but everything you remember about them being somehow more than they really were, because that's what remembering everything does."

I cannot face school on Monday. I've spent a week watching Supernatural and playing with my guitar and reading copious amounts of wincest, and now I can't imagine writing my lab on the different pollination patterns of asters. :/

Homecoming

Good weekend, you guys! I'm really looking forward to the Wincon reports, because it looked amazing - I'm sure everyone has some really good stories to tell. :)

Baltimore was tempting, since it's so close, but it was homecoming here & I'm glad I didn't miss it. Spirit week went fairly smoothly - a few wardrobe malfunctions as usual, but nothing serious - and color day on Friday sort of EXPLODED. We were white, and painted all the senior cars and crepe'd our hallways white and were generally obnoxious to underclassmen. The pep rally was... well, the lower school's there for part of it, so it starts off G-rated. And then, of course, when they were gone the senior boys who were cheerleading for powderpuff ran out, stripped, & danced to 'Womanizer' until the music got cut off. Because it's not senior year if you don't take everything way too far. :)

We kicked ass in powderpuff - our class is really athletic and REALLY competitive, so of course we were tackling and sliding and breaking all the rules. So much fun, really, I have a three-inch gash down my side from the turf field. AND THEN (I am such a huge pyro) there was a three-story-high bonfire!! My skin roasted off. Amazing. Saturday was the actual football game - we won, something like 54-0, so it wasn't exactly exciting - but our volleyball team is now 23-0, and of all of that, they've only lost one set. Seriously. Watching them sort of makes me think that they could spike my head off.

I think I took over 500 pictures this week - three albums on Facebook, once I edited out the ones of the floor and blurry sports photos and knocking out a few of the 100+ fire pictures.

Mmm, high school. Spreading the crazy. ♥
